“How could you even care? After all, you’ve been through.”
“I don’t want to, but I don’t want people to hurt as I do.” He said as he inhale a big smoke.
The boy fell silent but never broke the stare.
“Life is hard, sometimes, but when it does, a little kindness could go so far.” he exhales out a cloud of mist and sorrow.
“People who don’t want to be hurt again just tried to avoid people but as they tried to protect themself they just do the same thing to those around them.”
The boy nod in agreement, but the other boy still looks straight into the dimming sunset.
“Now everyone knows how truly the dark is until they’ve been in it, the helplessness, the urge to end it all. Everything was all but a remnant of what you once had.”
He flicked out the cigarette butt in his hand into the empty rooftop.
“I just tried to appreciate the time I have left as much as possible.”
They’ve now locked eyes. The sun that reflected from the brownish eyes of the boy turned golden. With their hand intertwined and their soul closer than an inch. The world that was once dark for both of them seems brighter than before.
“If only we could say our thoughts out loud.”
