Before we go deeper in details, I have to remind you that this book series is a dark taboo romance. It’s about adopt sister and brother. If this is not your cup of tea, please put the book down immediately. And if you insist on continuing, please keep an open mind and remember that they are not blood related. Both of the main characters are adopted by the same family. This is only fiction. It’s not real. Just because something is understandable in the imaginary doesn’t mean it’s acceptable in the real world. We all have different tastes in reading, and this is mine. No judgement allow.

    Where do I even begin?

Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Malachi. He lost his family and was adopted by the Vize. Malachi has been living with different families over the past few years. But all of them didn’t understand him. He thought the Vize family was going to be the same. Just a few weeks in their home before they send him back to the foster home. He prepared for it. He was ready for it. Little did he know, the Vize family was going to change his life forever.

I believe what makes my heart swollen for Malachi is that he is mute. Well, he wasn't born mute. Some tragic incident happened to him when he was a little boy that cost him the great loss. Which evidently makes him who he is. A little psycho, possessiveness, with attachment issues. The perfect mentally unstable character that has the weak spot for people he genuinely cares about. How could we not fall in love with him?

In my defense, Malachi never asked for any of this to happen. He didn’t choose this life for himself. He never asked to be tossed around from one family to another like a freak who doesn’t belong anywhere. He is just a little boy who wants to be loved, to belong, to have someone who understands him for who he is and what he’s been through. It is no surprise why Malachi is so obsessed and protective over Olivia. She is the first person who cares and shows him what it's like to be loved unconditionally.

Now, I know most people hate Olivia to their guts. Some even say she doesn’t deserve Malachi. I did too. There was a time when I couldn't stand Olivia. She’s annoying and just uses Malachi for her own good. And yes, there was a time where I believe Malachi could do better than Olivia. But that only lasted before I read book two of this series.

In all fairness, and to defend on Olivia’s behalf, in book one we thought we knew about the Vize family. We thought we got about half way through in their stories. But the truth is, we don’t. Not until we read book two. Book one is just a small glimpse of the whole thing. There is a lot that happens in book two. Some missing pieces, another side of the story, background story we never knew. Most of the time I gasp and question everything I thought I knew. It is the “Holy shit” moments that keep happening and happening again. It took me a while to finish part 1 of book 2. Yes, it is rather long and almost feels like it’s never gonna end. There is nothing I wanted to do more than skip the pages to part 2. But let me tell you, it is worth the wait.

By the time I’m done with part 1 book 2, I feel sorry for Olivia. And I hate her slightly less than I did before. But for Malachi? Oh, my dear…. Let’s just say, there is nothing I wouldn’t do for him.

If he wants love and reassurance, then I will stay and make every day special for him. If he wants someone who understands him and sees him beyond the broken boy who couldn’t speak, I will give him unconditional love that he craves. If he wants to run away, I will pack my things and leave without question. Cause that’s how much I love Malachi. There isn’t a line in this world that I wouldn’t cross for him. In the end I’m merely happy that Olivia is finally brave enough to do all of the above for Malachi. They truly deserve each other.

Malachi is the most misunderstood character of all time and there’s nothing you can say that’s going to change my mind. There are other books out there in which the main character is mute, but Malachi will always hold a special place in my heart.

    Why?

    Because Malachi tries.

He tries to be better. He knows his flaws and he tries. He works on himself to be a better person in every minute of his life. He does things he doesn’t feel comfortable just to be worthy of love. There is nothing I love more than when someone is willing to push themselves beyond their comfort zone to be better. Call me colorblind if you want, because all I see is a green flag.

Obsessive much? ‘I can fix him’ delusional?

    Absolutely.

Did I feel sick to the stomach while I was reading?

Was it ‘that dark’ and ‘taboo’?

    Obviously.

    Does it worth it?

    Fuck yes.

The best part? The crossover between the web of silence duet and the edge of darkness universe. It was absolutely exquisite. Beyond describable. When I was reading the web of silence duet, I’ve never read the edge of darkness before. I may have heard about it, but I didn’t know anything about it at all. And yet, I was fully invested in every character. I love them all. I love them before I get to know them. Leigh Rivers really did an amazing job in making us fall in love with her characters. It’s because of the web of silence duet that makes me curious about all the characters from the edge of darkness. I want to know more. I need to know more. In the end, everyone has their happy ending. No Clift hanging. No one was left behind. At least not in the web of silence duet. However, the characters in the edge of darkness ending shall be discussed next time. For now let’s enjoy the quiet peace for Malachi and Olivia. After everything they’ve been through, they deserve the happily ever after.

    10/10

It is as good as the internet says and even better and beyond. Sure. There are some unrealistic parts but who cares? It’s a book. It’s supposed to be like that. Unrealistic, unhinged, twisted, disgusting, and disturbed. But I’m proud to say that I freaking love them all. I love everything about this series. It’s a rollercoaster ride I will never forget. The character’s development is such a hype. The ending is so beautiful, it totally makes up for the cry and tears along the way.

Thank you so much for bringing me tears and laughter, Malachi. You will always be loved.
